St. Paul's Choristers
Weekly Rehearsals on Thursdays from 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
(Includes time for socialization, homework, rehearsal, and dinner.)
About the Program
The St. Paul’s Chorister Program is the youth choir of the church and is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music in American which uses the RSCM Voice for Life training curriculum. Its motto is Psallam Spiritu et Mente meaning “I will sing with the spirit and the understanding also” taken from 1 Corinthians 14:15. This program focuses on music education that supports the music and liturgy at St. Paul’s as well as the wider Crystal Coast community. Choristers in the program undertake rigorous music training with a focus on choral singing in the Anglican sacred music tradition.
Who Can Join
The program is open to youth with the ability to read proficiently from grade 4 (age 9) – grade 12. The program is open to both parishioners and non-parishioners. Potential Choristers interested in joining the program will have an informal hearing to determine if both the applicant and program are mutually compatible. (N.B. Those with unchanged voices are highly encouraged to participate in the program through the changing of the voice. At that point, singers with changed voices will still utilize the RSCM VfL program but will be incorporated into the Parish Choir.)
What to Expect
Participating in the St. Paul’s Chorister Program is an involved endeavor, and choristers and their families must make a commitment to full participation. Choristers rehearse weekly and sing about once a month either on Sundays or on Thursday Evening Prayer.
In addition to the general program, Choristers will have the opportunity to participate in RSCM Summer Courses (Choir Camp) at various locations in the country, winter Chorister Festivals held in the Carolinas, and both local and international choir tours.
